Membership in UC Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Summer Symphony is by audition only, and is open to Berkeley students as well as community members. Auditions are held every fall, spring, and summer, before the semester begins. Fall 2021 Requirements

Auditions will consist of an in-person interview and a submission of a pre-recorded video of audition requirements, listed below:

Below are the video audition requirements for the Fall 2021 semester. Please submit your audition tape by Wednesday, August 18 at 5pm PT (EXTENDED: Tuesday, August 24 at 5pm PT).

  • Solo piece: a portion of a piece or multiple pieces that demonstrate both fast and slow playing (not to exceed 5 minutes total).
  • Orchestral excerpts: as stated below (unless stated otherwise, ALL listed excerpts must be prepared).

Audition Video Guidelines (due by Wednesday, August 18 at 5pm PT, EXTENDED: Tuesday, August 24 at 5pm PT):

  • Audition video should be recorded in one single take, if possible.
  • Using smartphone footage or another device with a clear camera and microphone is acceptable.
  • Please name your video file in this format:
    • [Instrument]_[Last name]_[First name]
      • Eg. violin_Huang_Jennifer
  • Upload your video file here.

Violin

French Horn
